September 29th, 2012 - Saturday night found Derek and Groomer Motorsports traveling to Lawrenceburg Speedway (Lawrenceburg, Indiana) in 1an event that benefited Breast Cancer Awareness. Thirty-one competitors entered the Open Wheel Modified portion of the program, and Derek advanced from the seventh starting spot in the second heat race to register a fourth place finish, which locked him into the fourteenth starting spot for the main event. In the feature mechanical issues would strike early in the feature, which forced Groomer to retire from the event to an eighteenth place finish. 1September 22nd, 2012 - The second night of the 33rd Annual Jackson 100 was held on Saturday night at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana). Groomer started the night by starting on the tail of the heat before advancing to the win to earn the third starting spot for the feature event. As the race went green Dereck bolted to the lead and led the first seven laps before bad luck struck. A bar in the track struck the bottom side of the car resulting in a hole in the oil pan, which brought Groomer's night to an early end. September 21st, 2012 - Friday night was a great outing for Derek as 1he picked up his second win of the year in the Open Wheel Modified portion of the opening round of the 33rd Annual Jackson 100 at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana). He started the night by winning his heat race from the second starting spot to earn the second starting spot for the main event. September 15th, 2012 - Derek entered a single event over the weekend as he traveled to Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana) for the Hall of Fame Classic. Twenty-nine Open Wheel Modifieds took part in the program, and after starting ninth on his heat race grid he raced to a third place finish, which locked him into the ninth starting spot for the main event. In the feature Groomer battled in the top ten throughout the feature before registering a tenth place finish at the checkered flag. September 2nd, 2012 - The weekend was a complete wash for Derek Groomer Motorsports as Terre Haute Action Track (Terre Haute, Indiana) lost their program on Saturday night to rain and Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) saw their event washed away on Sunday evening. As a result Derek didn't race anywhere.
