1June 15th, 2013 - Friday night found Derek Groomer back in action at his home track, Bloomington Speedway (Bloomington, Indiana), and he would score his second feature win of the year in his #04 Groomer Motorsports Open Wheel Modified.

Nineteen competitors registered for battle, and Derek started his night by winning his heat race from the fifth starting spot to lock into the third starting spot for the feature. In the main event he worked his way forward to the lead and never looked back on his way to the victory, which came over Kenny Carmichael Sr., Richie Lex, Jason Clark, and Kenny Carmichael Jr. Full results from the program are available at www.BloomingtonSpeedway.com.

Saturday evening found Derek pitted at Twin Cities Raceway Park (North Vernon, Indiana) in another UMP Open Wheel Modified weekly racing series event. After winning his heat race he earned the pole position for the feature. However his luck in the feature would not be as good as the previous nights as a broken fuel pump early in the main event sidelined him to an eleventh place finish in the final rundown. 1June 12th, 2013 - On Wednesday night Derek took part in a special program at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana) as he competed in a $1,000-to-win, DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals event.

Twenty-five entries were on hand for the race, and Derek raced to a fifth place finish behind race winner, Devin Gilpi, Jacob Poel, Jeff Curl, and David Mielke. Full results from the race are available at www.ModifiedNationals.com.

June 8th, 2013 - It was a busy, yet successful, weekend for Derek Groomer and Groomer Motorsports as Derek debuted his new graphics scheme, which a tribute to his good friend, Josh Burton, who passed away from injuries sustained in a Sprint Car wreck on May 24th.

The weekend opened on Friday evening at Bloomington Speedway (Bloomington, Indiana), where a make-up feature from a May 3rd rain out started the night. Derek started eleventh in the make-up feature before advancing to a third place finish behind race winner, Zach Fair, and Jake Humphrey.

After the completion of the make-up feature a complete new program was held for the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds as nineteen entries registered for battle. Derek advanced from the seventh starting spot to a second place finish in his heat race. Via passing points he earned the second starting spot for the finale. As the race went green Groomer shot to the lead and went on to lead all 20 laps to claim the win over Collin Thirlby, Ryan Thomas, Kenny Carmichael Jr., and John Demoss. In victory lane Groomer dedicated the win to Josh Burton's memory. The triumph was his first of the year.

Saturday evening found Derek competing at Lincoln Park Speedway (Putnamville, Indiana) in another UMP Open Wheel Modified program. Twenty-four entries took part in the program, and a sixth to fourth run in his heat race positioned Groomer starting eleventh in the feature. As the main event went green he quickly began working his way forward and was up to the third spot with just two laps remaining, when contact from another competitor on a restart caused him to spin from contention. He was credited with a thirteenth place finish.
