On Friday evening Derek Groomer was one of 18 Open Wheel Modifieds signed in at Bloomington Speedway (Bloomington, Illinois) for the Josh Burton Memorial. Gaining one spot in his heat, Groomer streaked to a 10-lap heat race win locking him on the pole for the feature. Hanging on to a podium finish in the 40-lap affair, Derek landed a 3rd place spot behind Ryan Thomas and Jacoby Hines with Jordan Wever and Kent Robinson completing the Top-5 finishers.

The following night at Lincoln Park Speedway (Putnamville, Indiana), Groomer advanced through the field six spots in his heat to pick up the win. Rolling off 5th for the feature, Derek held his spot for the entire distance notching a 5th place finish behind Jordan Wever, Randy Shuman, James Walters, and Rob Brickert.

May 19, 2018 - Powering the Jerry Burton Masonry #D48 Open Wheel Modified, Derek Groomer invaded Lincoln Park Speedway (Putnamville, Indiana) on Saturday evening for the regular night of racing. With 26 cars on hand, Groomer jumped up two spots in his heat to pick up the win. Earning the 3rd-starting position for the feature, Derek gained one position to place 2nd behind Jordan Wever with James Walters, Tim Prince, and Kenny Carmichael Jr. completing the Top-5 finishers.

May 12, 2018 - On Saturday night Derek Groomer made the short trip to Lincoln Park Speedway (Putnamville, Indiana) competing in a field of 28 Open Wheel Modifieds. Moving up two spots in his heat, Groomer landed a 3rd place finish locking his spot into the main event. Breaking into the Top-5, Derek passed five cars in the feature reeling in a 4th place finish behind Jamie Lomax, James Walters, and Bradley Sterrett with Dan Lewellen coming in 5th.

May 5, 2018 - Friday night brought Derek Groomer to Bloomington Speedway (Bloomington, Indiana) for the American Modified Series sanctioned JB Robinson Memorial. In a field of 26 cars, Groomer locked his spot into the feature with a 3rd place finish in his heat. Rolling off 12th, Derek improved three spots in the 40-lapper to place 9th.

On Saturday evening Derek stopped at Lincoln Park Speedway (Putnamville, Indiana) for the regular night of racing. Passing four cars in his heat, Groomer landed a 2nd place finish behind Kenny Carmichael Jr. positioning him 5th on the stating grid for the feature. Breaking into a podium spot, Derek reeled in a 3rd place finish behind James Walters with Tim Prince, Kenny Carmichael Jr., and Rob Brickert completing the Top-5 finishers.
