Groomer enjoys strong North-South 100 showing, trio of top-five finishes
Derek Groomer trekked south to Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) on Thursday afternoon to compete in the Modified portion of the 41st annual Sunoco North-South 100 weekend.
With 40 Modifieds on the grounds for the event spanning three days, Groomer raced his way into the opener with a third-to-first showing in his heat race. Chasing a $1,000 payday, Derek faded two spots to register a fourth-place finish.
For another $1,000-to-win prelim on Friday evening, Derek’s fifth-to-second run in his heat race positioned him on the third row for the A-Main. Moving forward three spots in the 20-lapper, Groomer posted a runner-up finish, which came 0.747 seconds behind Blake Brown.
With preliminary results from Thursday and Friday placing him on the second row for Saturday night’s $3,000-to-win North-South 100, Groomer gained two positions to cap off the weekend with his second consecutive runner-up finish. He followed Cole Falloway across the line in the finale with Blake Brown, Victor Lee, and Zach Powers completing the top-five finishers.
